Philosophy

Early childhood is a vitally important development stage in a preschooler’s life.  At J.W.S.D. we strive to create a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment for your child.  Within the Theatre Arts Program, your child will learn and develop emotionally, socially, intellectually and creatively.  By bringing the arts to the forefront we will embrace all ethnicities and the cultural diversity that each child brings.  Students will explore their creative side through dance, music, gymnastics and theatre.  Weekly themes will include activities to increase their small and gross motor skills as well as their knowledge of the world and the academics that are developmentally appropriate for their maturity levels.

We believe that a quality early childhood program will provide maximum growth and development for each child. Our staff is highly trained in the areas of child development and the arts.

Curriculum

A theatre-arts based preschool program. In addition to ballet, tap, theatre and gymnastics students will learn age appropriate academics while focusing on fine and gross motor skills as well as social and emotional development.  Each group will each spend time developing their minds through weekly themed activities. We will utilize arts, crafts and small manipulative to focus on academics and socialization.

Students will play theatre games, dress up, and role play to develop their understanding of the roles available to them in our society.

We will rotate each group through our very popular theatre arts block. In this block we will participate in ballet, tap, creative movement, gymnastics and musical theatre.

Children will spend time not only “reading” picture books but acting out stories with costumes, props and accessories.

At the end of each unit, we will prepare and present performances for the parents.

We will schedule occasional field trips to enhance the students learning and understanding of the world around them.
